Introduction
Otorhinolaryngology or simply ENT is the field of medicine that deals with diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the Ear, Nose, Throat and Head and Neck. Early diagnosis of diseases is of primary importance in any specialty and it requires not only competency of the clinician but also availability of latest equipment. Otorhinolaryngology as a specialty has made tremendous advancements over the last two decades with the advent of new technologies and their incorporation in the diagnosis and treatment of Otorhinolaryngology diseases. The fiberoptic technology is used in the endoscopes for better visualization of narrow spaces encountered in Otorhinolaryngology domain and has had a tremendous impact and has opened up new dimensions in the diagnosis and treatment of Otorhinolaryngology diseases. The advent of microchip technology has also made its way into Otorhinolaryngology in the form of cochlear implantation for hearing loss. LASER technology has added another feather to Otorhinolaryngology cap in the form of Micro laryngeal surgeries for the diseases of larynx. The subspecialty of facial plastic surgery is gaining tremendous importance because of increasing awareness among patients regarding their appearance and there is increasing trends of getting cosmetic surgeries done by patients to improve their facial appearance.
Head of Department
Prof Dr Ayub Ahmad Khan who is the Head of department of Otorhinolaryngology has multidimensional work experience and brings with him vast clinical and academic experience of 34 years. He his renowned Otorhinolaryngologist of Lahore who has treated innumerable patients in his career and done more than 12,000 major surgeries of Otorhinolaryngology. His academic career includes working in Fatima Memorial, Allama Iqbal, University of Lahore, Avicenna and CMH Lahore Medical Colleges where he has taught Otorhinolaryngology to thousands of medical students. He is also involved in training of post graduate trainees of Otorhinolaryngology for which he is an approved Supervisor. He is a qualified Medical Educationist with Masters in Health Professional Education from College of Physicians and Surgeons. He is a University of Health Science Lahore certified Faculty Master Trainer and lead faculty for supervisor workshops. His research interests include Otorhinolaryngology and Medical Education in which he got numerous publications.
