DR. SHIREEN RAFEEQ

Dr. Shireen Rafeeq was born in Lahore on 19^th April 1962. Her early schooling was in Karachi. She did Senior Cambridge from Convent of Jesus and Mary, Lahore and F.Sc. from Kinnaird College, Lahore. She graduated with MBBS from AllamaIqbal Medical College, Lahore as the second-best graduate of the college. She topped the college in the 1^st Professional exam as well as the subject of Anatomy. She stood 2^nd in the college in the 3^rd Professional and cleared all her exams in the first division and in the first attempt. Her MBBS result was declared in July 1986.

She did her house job in Surgery from Services Hospital Lahore, and in Medicine from Mayo Hospital Lahore. She took a career break while her children were growing up as the family had to move very frequently between different cities due to her husband’s duties. During this time, she did Masters in Public Health (MPH) from Armed Forces Postgraduate Medical Institute (AFPGMI), Rawalpindi in 2008, and then MSc Community Health and Nutrition from AllamaIqbal Open University, Islamabad.

On October 23, 2017 she started working as a senior demonstrator in Central Park Medical College, Lahore where she worked till November 23, 2018. Subsequently she joined CMH Lahore Medical College on November 26, 2018 where she is working as senior lecturer till date.

She has an interest in research and has presented papers in the 3^rd and 4^th Annual Public Health Conferences conducted by the Health Service Academy, Islamabad. She is a co-author in a paper on vitamin and mineral supplementation for preventing dementia, published in 2018 by the prestigious Cochrane Collaboration, UK, for whom she also does voluntary research work, and is currently part of another research from the same organization which is expected to be published shortly. She won a writing competition run by the prestigious journal ‘The Lancet’ on the launch of their new magazine ‘The Lancet Global Health’. She also takes particular interest in the field of Medical Humanities and wrote a paper on Avicenna (Ibn-i-Sina) which was published in the Journal of the Hecktoen Institute of Medicine, Chicago USA in 2015.
