Community Medicine

Introduction

Academic Activities:
This department teaches the subject of Community Medicine and Public Health and imparts Community – Oriented Medical Education (COME) to students. This enables the medial students to appreciate disease not just in the individual patient but also against spectrum of whole community. This renders doctor more useful to society as he may not treat only one individual but prevents hundreds or thousands from the same disease. Faculty of Community Medicine Department will be dedicated to transform the student into Care provider, decision maker, excellent communicator, manager, researcher, lifelong, self-directed inquiring learner who is ethically sound, socially accountable, disciplined, confident and motivated.

Objectives;
To expedite the academic growth and development in undergraduate medical education. To improve health standards of the community in this underdeveloped region of the world. Focus of Medical Education & Research will be on regional medical issues. Trained graduates will successfully execute and streamline the medical profession and will fill the vacuum in the growing medical field. Development of human resource, research and technology in this institute will ultimately help in the development of national economy. Department will work according to the following organogram;

Assessment at the end of each module, summative assessment is conducted through theory papers consisting of MCQs, SEQs and Pre annual examination consists of both theory and OSPE & VIVA. Formative assessment is carried out through Quiz/Assignment//Logbook/Project.

Conduct of Seminars / workshops & Webinar: Department conducts seminars on the topics of public health interest like World Health Day on 7th April. Regular webinars and in person workshops are conducted for the faculty and students by the Head of the Department e.g. (medical writing, research methodology, SPSS)
The Department arranges minimum five Field Visits & Household Survey to expose the students to community-based education (CBE).
Yearly Research is conducted by the students in batches of 20, each headed by a supervisor from the teaching staff and head of department.
The department conducts monthly Water testing, Food testing & assist in sanitary rounds.
