Cosmetic Bonding, Veneers, Crowns

When a tooth is damaged, a cosmetic and restorative procedure such as bonding, fabrication of a veneer, or a full or partial crown may be necessary to reconstruct the form and function of the teeth. The choice of these treatments depends on many factors. Following appropriate diagnostic procedures and consultation with the patient, a treatment plan is formulated. A restoration is chosen that meets the needs of the patient and provides a functional and cosmetic result.

Fixed Bridges

A fixed bridge is a dental restoration that replaces lost or missing teeth. Once completed, this bridge is permanently placed into the mouth. Without the use of a replacement bridge, existing teeth may shift and the patient may experience difficulty in chewing. There may be an increase in the incidence of dental decay and periodontal disease causing further loss of teeth. Bridges safeguard the integrity of existing teeth and help maintain a healthy, vibrant smile.

Composite Restorations

Until recently, dentists filled and sealed cavities using a silver and mercury amalgam. These restorations were very reliable but, over time, they often weakened teeth due to the amount of the tooth structure that must be removed in their preparation. In addition, surrounding tooth structure was frequently stained by the amalgam. Modern dentistry has increasingly turned to bonded composite restorations as a more natural-looking alternative to amalgam restorations.

Tooth Whitening

Regardless of how well you care for your teeth, it is inevitable that, over time, some yellowing or discoloration will occur. This gradual change can be caused by aging; substances that stain your teeth such as tea, coffee or tobacco products; excessive fluoride; or the deterioration of a tooth's vitality. Impressions are taken and fitted trays are fabricated to administer the whitening treatments, which may be performed at home. Before and after digital photographs are taken to monitor the results of the whitening process.

Dental Implants

For individuals who wish to replace missing teeth, dental implants may be an effective treatment alternative. Implants provide structural support for individual crowns, bridges or dentures. Implants serve as the artificial root to which new teeth are joined. They are typically constructed of titanium, a strong and safe material that effectively becomes united to the bone. The procedure to insert dental implants typically involves three steps: the implant insertion, osseointegration (the period of time required to unite to the jawbone), and the attachment of the restoration to the implant.
